My first DIY project post....

I've done many DIY projects since we bought our house 2 years ago. I've taken pictures here and there of what I've done and put them in my Design on A budget photo album on Facebook. But I've never actually sat down and explained it so here is my first attempt....Please forgive the pictures, my DSLR was out of battery so I had to use my single shot camera...Project numero uno is an earring holder! One that looks pretty on the wall and can display those pretty dangling earrings for you to see!

What you need:
  • A Wood frame - this can be any wood frame of your choosing. You can buy one at Wal-mart or Target. I got mine at Michael's so that I could paint it any color. I chose a 12 x 12 frame. But and 8 x 10 will work too.
  • Picture Wire
  • Staple Gun or Hot Glue Gun
  • Scrapbook paper (optional)
  • Paint (optional)
  • Foam brush (optional)
The paint and brush are optional if you decide to paint your frame. You can leave it as is if you'd like. I used scrapbook paper as a background but you can leave your frame open if you'd like as well. It's up to you.

Step 1: Paint your frame to the color of your choosing. I chose Turquoise Blue. I wanted something fun in my closet.

Step 2: Meaure your wire. I decided to 4 strands across. I placed my first wire 1/4 inch from the top and then spaced 2 inches between each strand. I chose to use 2 pieces of wire for each level. That way I could place stud earrings on it. If you are just planning to hang dangly earrings on your frame, then one strand across would be fine.

Step 3: Now I must admit, a staple gun would have worked better for this project, but Jeff & I do not own one, so the hot glue it is! I glued the wires to the inside of the wooden frame. It was a pain because I had to hold the wire there while the glue dried, but it worked. That's why a staple gun would have been easier.

Step 4 (Optional): Place your scrapbook paper inside the frame like it is the picture. If you are using a frame from the store, you will not be placing the glass back in the frame.

Step 5: Hang your frame where you would like or you can leave it on a counter. I opted to hang mine in my closet. Hang you earrings on the wire and Enjoy!

Well so far so good. I hope this helps! More to come soon!
